Overtime Rules Have Changed, Are You Ready?
The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries has updated its rules regarding the minimum salary threshold and job duties test for sal-aried exempt employees. Under the approved changes, the minimum pay a salaried worker must receive to be considered exempt would increase incrementally to 2.5 times the state minimum wage by 2028, the new rules effective January 1, 2021.
That new minimum wage will impact some employees exempt from overtime and other protections of the Minimum Wage Act. Employees defined as executive, administrative and professional, as well as outside salespeople and computer professionals must perform certain duties and usually must earn a salary that meets or exceeds a minimum speci-fied threshold.
